The bass fishing on Table Rock right now is about as good as it gets! The high colored water around the main lake and all the current has the smallmouth shallow and still biting. These fish that are used to clear water now living in stained water has them hungry and thinking everything is food! Still catching nearly all of these smallmouth on the main lake gravel points around the Dam to Kimberling City to Baxter area. Keep your boat in 20-25′ of water and cast in towards the old bank line.  The past week the best bite I’ve seen is on a 4″ smoke/black flake Chompers single tail grub on a 3/16 ounce head.  Without a doubt let the grub sink to the bottom before a slow retrieve back to the boat just keeping it slightly off the bottom. As usual, 99.9% of the bites are soft,to where it feels like your line just gets heavy….jerk when that happens because it’s a smallmouth!

Besides the grub catching a lot also on a tube and ned rig. A lot of these fish are further back in the pockets getting ready to spawn I believe.  Same depth just fishing slower off the bottom if they wont hit a grub. In the lower part of the James River and some around Kimberling I’ve already been catching quite a few spotted bass drop shotting in 22-28′ off the main lake gravel points. Using a 1/4 ounce drop shot weight look for these fish close to the bottom and try a brown/purple or watermelon candy 4” Chompers worm or night crawler.  They are out there and going to be more and more showing up deeper in the upcoming week.
